Plentiful Pumpkins

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

That's our boy taking down a big Panther. His team won last night! They are the only undefeated team and on their way to Round 2 of the playoffs (they get a "bye" from Round 1). One of the coaches put it best last night when he said to the boys: "You all will always remember this game/season for the rest of your lives." So will the parents!

Dream Dog

My dream dog...
He was sitting outside a store waiting so obediently for his master.
(The clarity of this picture is not that great-doggy turned his head just as I took the pic.)

Hanging by a thread

I saw this spider when we were at Arlie Gardens. It was the size of my hand, but there was no way I was going to try to put my hand near it for scale! It was hanging from a corner of a high overhang from a porch and I am looking up at it. I turned up the contrast here to make it a little different from the rest of my spider pictures.

Hoist The Colors

These were flying high and proud on the U.S.S. North Carolina. I searched the web and found what they stand for here. I hope this is correct. Starting from the top:
The first one is named November and means no or negative.
The second one is named India and means coming alongside.
The third one I am not 100% sure about...
The last one is named Kilo and means I wish to communicate with you.

Six Straight Ones

Big B and his team played in the rain last night, sometimes coming down quite heavy, and loved every second of it. He kicked a great field goal. They won 20-0. Next week will be the last game of the season, but they are headed for the playoffs. It will be a challenging game as the other team is also undefeated. Wish us luck!

I should have used something to show the scale of these chain links. They were BIG and heavy (twice the size of my foot). These were on the U.S.S. North Carolina we toured while in Wilmington, NC. Maybe somebody over at 50Toes would know the appropriate terms and information for this! ;)

That there's one yeller flower (said in my best western/country voice).

Drops Of Dew

These flowers were tiny; about the size of the tip of my index finger. When I uploaded this picture, I noticed the tiny drops of dew. It's always amazes me what I did not notice when taking a picture, but do once I upload it.

I thought this was a neat looking flower, so I quickly took a picture of it. I now wished I had moved that greenery off to the side to capture just the flower. I love how it makes the ground below look like it's somewhat spinning.

Iron Enclosure

I love ornate iron. This beautiful fence is wrapped around a southern plantation/mansion.

Beach Beauty

Among the weeds along the walkway, were some of these gorgeous flowers. I'd love to know what these are called.

5 Victories

I meant to post this Tuesday but forgot... We arrived home from our trip an hour before B's game. We dumped the stuff from our sandy van while he got ready. We then raced to the field and made it for the warm up. It was a fun game of back and forth but they finally scored the last 5 minutes of the game. 5 straight wins is just a great feeling!

I Want To Go Back...

The past five days, we went to Wilmington Beach, NC for my cousins wedding. It was beautiful weather even with clouds and some rain the first two days. I have added pictures since last Thursday. We had no internet connection (which really was a nice break!).

Red Flag

Despite the rough waters and cloudy skies, it was still relaxing to be at the beach!

anxiously for the warm embrace of the sun...

Beach Beggars

Give one of them any hint you are eating, and ten come flying by!

Peeking Through

This flower was peeking through a white picket fence at the beach. Would love to know what type of flower this is.

Diamond In The Drought

We've had a severe drought where we live, and haven't seen rain in weeks. We are also under a complete watering ban. My flowers are all dead. But, I noticed my hydrangea bush produced three white beautiful blooms this week. What a treat! (Notice the brown dried up blooms that never amounted to much.)

PS - I won't have much of an Internet connection the next several days. So, if you don't see any posts, don't worry, I'll back track to catch up! :)

Invasion of the Zipper Spiders!

Remember this spider? It's not the same one from what I can compare. But I did spot 5 of these today at Big B's guitar teacher's house. The best explanation for seeing so many is due to the fact that he lives in the woods; otherwise, it's an invasion! EEEEEEK!!

And another win...

My boy Big B made this field goal... it was an exciting game! Feels good to be 4 and 0.
