Are you ready for some football?

Some Monday night football? It's that time of year again - my favorite! My oldest had his first pre season game last night and it was so much fun (even in the heat and humidity!). Yes, the QB was sacked here... :(

E.T.'s Bug

My little 6 year old called this praying mantis "E.T.'s Bug". It was hanging on our back door this morning, but then he jumped to the Little Tykes Basketball hoop and has been hanging out there since. Kinda looks like an alien!

Nice Lil' Kick

It's a Grande Nonfat Iced Caramel Macchiato - light ice, heavy caramel. The barista had to double cup it since it was spilling over. Perfect!

Growing Stalks

But let the good old crop adorn
The hills our fathers trod;
Still let us, for his golden corn,
Send up our thanks to God!

The Black Panther

Looks pretty scary, huh?!
I need to take a break from dead animals. It is so dry and parch here that everything is drying up and dying, thus, why A Picture A Day has become a little morbid. Sorry! It's definitely not who I am, but it sure is all around me these days. We NEED rain!

What do you think? Is this bug dead or alive?

My Baby Bumble Bee

I'm squishing up my baby bumble bee,
won't my mama be so proud of me?
I'm squishing up my baby bumble bee,
Oh, he popped up out of my hand!

Look What The Cat Dragged In

...on the patio. It's been dead for over a week. It dried in the shape of a J. And believe me when I say this, it's totally starting to reek.

99 In The Shade

Yesterday the temps reached over 100 on our thermometer. I was outside taking a picture of a dead snake on my arm (that's for tomorrow's post) when a bird flew by and dropped dead on our patio. Time of death: 1:40pm. Cause of death: Heat Stroke(?). Poor 'lil feller...

The Lone Tree

It was a hazy day when I took this picture. I couldn't get my camera on the right settings. But I like the way the contrast between the valley and the top of the mountain turned out. I was trying to capture that lone tree on the top of the mountain. It stood out to me as we drove by.

Super Sized Spider

If it wasn't for my absolute and utter disdain for spiders, I would have somehow put my hand close to this thing so you could see just how big it was for scale. But as I moved closer, I could see it flinch, as if it wanted to jump at me. So to be approximate, it was at least the size of my palm. Ewwww!

Me King Over Beetle

I would have never held this - ever. But, I really think the more I take pictures of creatures, the more I am becoming aware that I am so much bigger than them!

Underdeveloped

My son came running in the house the other evening and said Mom, you've got to come see this and bring your camera. My children and I were intrigued by the sight. This tiny egg was no bigger than half the size of my thumb. We pondered what type of bird it was and how it happened since we cannot see a nest in sight anywhere in our back yard. This morning, the bird was gone but the egg was still there. Suprisingly, no one cried over it. ;) Am I just a horrid person for posting a picture of an under developed dead bird? I am sorry; nature continuously strikes my curiosity.

Luray Caverns

I didn't appreciate this place growing up as I did when we visited last month. During our underground cavern tour, my eyes were totally playing tricks on me until our tour guide noted that this was a reflection.

Mister Ed

A horse is a horse
Of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse of course —
That is of course unless the horse
Is the famous Mister Ed.

(Sherman didn't really talk... he just sorta looks like it here.)
